Configure welcome messages

Send a Clan Labs greeting and optional image to new Discord members in a selected channel.

Last updated 3 September 2026

What this does

Welcome settings send a community greeting when a member joins the connected Discord server. This is separate from the verification account-linking guide.

Prerequisites

  • The community plan includes welcome messages.
  • Clan Labs is installed and active.
  • A text-capable destination channel exists.
  • The bot can view the channel, send messages, embed links, and attach files when an image is used.

Setup steps

  1. Open Settings → Welcome.
  2. Enable the welcome message.
  3. Select the Discord destination channel.
  4. Enter the member-facing message using the variables or formatting supported by the Clan Labs form.
  5. Add or update the welcome image when needed.
  6. Review the dashboard preview in both light and dark Discord-style presentation.
  7. Save the settings.

Expected result

New Discord members receive the configured greeting in the selected channel. Verification instructions remain controlled by Settings → Verification and can be delivered by direct message or a standing channel panel.

Verify that it works

Use a test Discord account to leave and rejoin only if doing so is safe for the server. Prefer the dashboard preview first. Confirm the message appears once, mentions resolve as intended, and the image is readable on mobile.

Common errors

  • Nothing is sent — confirm the feature and channel are enabled and the bot is active.
  • The channel selector shows a stored unavailable channel — choose a current text channel.
  • The image does not appear — check Attach Files, file validity, and current image configuration.
  • Members receive verification guidance but no greeting — configure Welcome separately; they are different features.

Security practices

  • Do not put private staff links, secrets, or API keys in a welcome message.
  • Avoid broad role or @everyone mentions unless the server explicitly needs them.
  • Keep images accessible and free of customer data.
  • Re-test after changing channel permission overwrites.

Next, configure verification or audit-log delivery.
